Horton for Best Animated Picture ?

Yes, I know, It's an early-bird topic. But what do you guys think? Is 'Horton Hears a Who' the right material to get nominated with the Oscars? The animation looks realy good, and besides the laughs, I guess there will be a good and heart-warming story. I mean, since 'Happy Feet' actually won las year (actually motion capture ánd half a copy of 'The Pebble and the Penguin', directed by Don Bluth) ... what can stop this giant elephant? :)

Let's see what's it's up against;

- WALL°E . From the director of 'Finding Nemo'. It looks amazing and it is a very promising concept ... there will be (almost) no speaking!

- Kung Fu Panda . The latest animated Dreamworks pictures weren't great. Only 'Wallace & Gromit' (fantastic!) and 'Flushed Away' were actually good, because of the Aardman-people. 'Bee Movie' seems to be good because of Seinfield. But Kung Fu Panda? Guess not.

- Space Chimps . The animation isn't the best (Valiant, Hapilly 'N ever After) and the promise (monkey's in space could be hilarious) doesn't sound like a Oscarmovie to me.

- Bolt . Once called 'American Dog', this last (realy!) computeranimated film from Disney is directed by Chris Williams (Mulan, the Emperor's New Groove). I think maybe the story is not classic enough to get nominated (a tv-dog thinks he has super-powers in real life), but you never know with Disney and the right people working on it. Also the animation looks original.

- Madagascar Sequel . Naaaaah.

- Monstermania! . A European CGImovie with a big budget and some good writers behind it. The set-up reminds me of 'Monster House' (was good).

- Caroline . This could be a big deal! A revolutionary dark stop-motion-picture filmed in 3D, based on a book by the author of 'Stardust' and 'Mirrormask'. Directed by Henry Selick (Nightmare before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach). Curious about this!

- The Tale of Desperaux . From Framestore CFC (did outstanding CGI-creatures in movies like Harry Potter) brings a nice classic tale about a romantic mouse that falls in love with a princess. Based on the famous book.

That's it for now. I think 'Wall.E', 'Caroline', maybe 'Bolt' and 'Desperaux' have a chance.

What do you guys think? Does 'Horton' has a chance?

Okay, yesterday I saw WALL-E ... it's clear ... Horton is out. There is absolutely no way that Kung Fu Panda (good critics) or Horton (also good) will beat the new Pixar movie. And I think Despereaux is going to make a very good chance to be nominated also.
