Jim Carrey Face Tape Wrapping Trend

Postby TNPihl » Tue Mar 25, 2014 12:13 am

By Eva Araújo (Web correspondent)

Sometimes a simple thing, created at the heat of a moment can change everything. In 2008, Jim started in the movie "Yes Man", a story loosely based on a book by Danny Wallace. In the movie we follow thes tory of Carl, a man who doesn't take any risks in his life and that after taking a seminar, decides to say Yes to everything that comes his way, turning his boring life into an adventure as well as teaching him that if we don't take risks... we may not live at all.

But one particular scene of this movie caught the eye of 21-year-old Brighton University student Lizzie Durley who decided to create the Sellotape Selfie Facebook page after laughing at the scene in "Yes Man" in which Jim Carrey tapes his own face.

'I was having a bad day and remembered that scene from the film which really tickled me. I figured people were getting bored of the whole 'selfie' craze - I know I was. So I just applied the concepts of the selfie to this idea and it resulted in Sellotape selfies!'

She presented the idea to her friends who shared it online and before she knew it, it was all over the internet. 'It grew so quickly,' she says. 'The concept is applicable to literally anyone, everyone can join in, there's no risk of offence, and people just love to have a giggle. 'So it blew up on Facebook.'

She said her 'goal' was 3,000 but today, her Facebook page has more than 120,000 likes and receives hundreds of submissions from enthusiastic selfie-takers every day making it the trend of the year.

Jim Carrey became aware of it and talked about in his Twitter account:
Guess I started a face tape trend.Makes ppl look like a Francis Bacon painting.Keep the nose holes clear kids! http://www.boredpanda.com/sellofie-sell ... portraits/ … (8^¥)

But the best thing was yet to come

Lizzie, the creator of the page, who answer Jim's tweet, got more than she hoped when Jim officially joined the trend too by posting his own selfie on Twitter in a reply to her:

It must hurt when you take it off
Green painters tape might hurt less
I wonder if it's face strippable(meaning it doesn't stick so much to ya)
Ow the hair
A lot of guys pics maybe the girls are a little more vain to do so
I wonder?
Don't know if I'd do it since I have allergy and glue issues
If I lick an envelope I always get a canker so I avoid doing so
I think it looks like it hurts
Does it?
Especially when taking the tape off

I did it when I was a kid many years ago I didn't put it in my hair tho. It didn't hurt taking it off. Peeling off a bandaid hurts more imo

I guess if ya use cheap tape it may work
but I can still imagine having a red tape rash
since that's what happens when I have tape on my skin
Latex bandages do that too
That's how I finally figured out I had an allergy to latex
also when I used latex gloves my hands would turn beet red
with other symptoms

The moisture from my lips made the stickiness go away so I had no problem

Yes, that the one
I just couldn't remember the word
Hunchback
When I feel down I sometimes read
things that take my mind off of what's
prompting me down
Recently I've been reading about
Joseph and his wife Asenath- from Joseph and the Coat
The bible story in Genesis
Anyway recent historical evidences have
found an old record, several from different areas
whether its actual or just and old story written
by someone I don't know, but it is a very interesting
story, I was wondering why it isn't a movie yet since
even if it is not true it is truly interesting.

The story of Joseph and Aseneth is found
at
http://archive.org/stream/josephasenath ... o_djvu.txt

I'm unsure if it is a true story or not but it is something to think about
the site gives the detail of when it was written etc and possible other translations

I guess we are now on subject of
either mummies or zombies
both look alike
Ancient Egypt is interesting
along with ancient stories
and biblical thoughts
very intriguing

Some people can handle that kind of thing
but I can't either
A wrapped mummy in my world is the only
kind of mummy I'd like to see

Apparently their digging up people who had
the black plague centuries ago, couldn't that
put the people who are digging them up and
checking them out at risk?
Could they be stirring up a problem that
should be staying in the past?

I wonder

Watching The Great Race
on TCM (Turner Classic Movies)
They have one of the best pie fights going
on this movie
You just can't help but laugh
Face Taping may be the trend
but the pie in the face is the Classic
