We will next see Jim Carrey in the HBO documentary "The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling".
Almost a year after his death, Garry Shandling is getting the documentary treatment from one of his biggest fans. Judd Apatow, friend of Jim Carrey has been working on the documentary about Shandling, who died last March at age 66. Apatow has had access to tons of great never-before-seen clips from Shandling’s life, including old journals and notebooks that Apatow has shared on Instagram last year.
The project features conversations with more than 40 of Shandling’s family and friends, including James L. Brooks, Jim Carrey, Sacha Baron Cohen, David Coulier, Jon Favreau, Jay Leno, Kevin Nealon, Conan O’Brien, Bob Saget, Jerry Seinfeld and Sarah Silverman.
It was also on Instagram Apatow shared a photo to let us know that both Jim Carrey and Bob Saget was going to be part of the documentary.
Jim Carrey paid tribute to his late friend, Garry Shandling, with a beautiful statement reflecting on both men's time in comedy the days after his death last year.
"When you get the light in a comedy club, you know your time is up. Life doesn't always give you a signal," Jim told ET. "Garry Shandling performed at the highest level on and offstage. He was an excellent man and he was more than ready for the Big Show."
In 1998 Jim had a guest appearance in the final episode at Garry Shandling's comedy hit series "The Larry Sanders Show". "I can't do comedy right now," Carrey jokingly said during his segment. "You're leaving, Larry! Just when I thought everything was solid in my life."
"The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling" will air Monday, March 26 and Tuesday, March 27, exclusively on HBO in two parts (4 1/2 hours). With a score by Mike Andrews.
