"The Grinch" Premiere
25 Oct 2000

From Universal's press release:

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment will host the world premiere of "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas," directed by Ron Howard and starring Jim Carrey as The Grinch, on Wednesday, November 8 at the Universal Amphitheatre as a benefit for First Book and BookPALS, a program of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation.

Benefit co-chairs for the evening, which is being sponsored by VISA, include Jim Carrey, FirstBook co-Founder and President Kyle Zimmer & Michael Clark, SAG President William Daniels & Bonnie Bartlett, "Grinch" producer Brian Grazer & Gigi Levangie, Ron & Cheryl Howard, Universal Pictures Chairman Stacey Snider & Gary Jones and Universal Studios Chairman and COO Ron Meyer & Kelly Chapman. The film will open nationwide on Friday, November 17th.

First Book (www.firstbook.org) is a national non-profit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. This year alone, through their national network of community-based volunteer Local Advisory Boards, First Book expects to distribute more than 4 million books to hundreds of thousands of children.

BookPALS, (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools), a program of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation, was founded to help children learn the magic of books and develop a love of reading. The all-volunteer team of professional actors who read aloud to children at public elementary schools in at-risk neighborhoods, reach more than 60,000 kids in 18 cities and more than 1,500 schools each week.

The film also stars Jeffrey Tambor as Mayor May Who, Christine Baranski as Martha May Whovier, Bill Irwin as Lou Lou Who, Molly Shannon as Betty Lou Who, Clint Howard as Whobris, and newcomer Taylor Momsen as Cindy Lou Who.
