New comedy with Carrey?
02 Nov 1997 THE FOOL ON THE HILL is a go. MGM issued a press release last Thurday, October 30th, confirming that JIM CARREY will star in the WILL DAVIES comedy about a window and aluminum siding salesman with a passion for being a radio disc jockey. Davies will co-produce the movie along with ERIC GOLD and JIMMY MILLER, of Gold-Miller Management.
MICHAEL NATHANSON, MGM Pictures president and chief operating officer, said to the press that "Jim has created some of modern film's most memorable characters." Nathason added also that "The main character in this comedy with heart is one of those once-in-a-lifetime parts involving music, comedy and drama in the tradition of Robin Williams in GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM and Jack Nicholson in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST. I cannot think of a more perfect vehicle for Jim's rare brand of charisma, comedic brilliance and artistic versatility."
MGM is scheduling the movie for a Christmas 1998 release.
