SNL Cold Open with Jim Carrey (10/31/20)
01 Nov 2020

By Lucas Allen (Web correspondent)

For their annual Halloween episode, Saturday Night Live opens with some story time from Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. Jim Carrey returns as the former vice president as he sits in a decorated room with decorations that he said he got from Melania's Christmas tree.

As Biden begins the sketch, he talks about the other holiday coming this week, which is election day that has America scared as well. He assures his viewers that the outcome might come his way, which happens once in a blue moon. He then begins to tell the classic Edgar Allan Poe story The Raven except he re-tells it about the upcoming election.

In fact, The Raven in particular is Kate McKinnon's Hilary Clinton referencing the previous election from four years ago. But while Biden remains optimistic, Clinton warns of impending doom no matter the outcome. A political analyst enters the room to discuss the outcome being a 1 in 6 chance. He rolls the dice a couple of times, but keeps getting a one as if the dice is haunted.

Rappers Ice Cube and Lil' Wayne next come in wearing MAGA hats voicing their support for Trump. This shocks Biden when he sees two celebrities throwing away their credibility that way. Fortunately, the sketch ends with another appearance from Maya Rudolph's Kamala Harris despite Biden mis-pronouncing her name on purpose. But then Mitch McConnell shows up to reveal he's secretly supporting Biden despite his hands being suspiciously purple.

Naturally, this sketch was designed as a last-minute plea from Biden (or at least Carrey's version) to encourage everybody to vote this Tuesday. Still, it's fun to see more of Carrey being hilarious in character much like his previous appearances.
