Jim Carrey presents MTV Video Music Awards
08 Sep 2000

Jim Carrey rocks it at the sound of Foghat's Slow Ride Catching by surprise pretty much everyone, Jim Carrey was one of the presenters of the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, held yesterday at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Carrey walked on stage at the sound of Foghat's "Slow Ride" and explained that one of the reasons for his last minute appearance had been a phone call from Ron Howard suggesting the event as a way to promote the upcoming "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas". Imitating the director, Carrey re-enacted the conversation, replying to Howard's gentle phrasing with "Ron, cut the crap, I know a threat when I hear it."

Carrey introduced Eminem's medley of "The Real Slim Shady" and "The Way I Am" observing that "I've got to be honest, I enjoy his music, but he scares me. His lyrics are totally, socially, unacceptable but you know what, I think if we spend some time with our kids, we'll be okay."

The award show was hosted by Shawn & Marlon Wayans and, for those who missed it, MTV will repeat the event again on September 9th at 1:30PM (ET/PT), and September 10th at 11AM (ET/PT) and 7PM (ET/PT).
