"It transcends age," said Carell of the story. "This is a book that resonates with kids yet they don't understand the metaphors explaining that everybody deserves an equal footing." Carrey explained that the elephant is a hero that children may not have seen before. That's why he couldn't resist saying ' yes' to the opportunity. "Anything that's odd I seem to be drawn to," he said.

"It is very hard work and not as simple as they first made it sound," said Carrey. "And it is a huge leap of faith" to trust that right versions of the lines will be used," said Carell.
