Name meanings~

Postby samurai_cable » Fri Feb 04, 2005 6:39 am

Hello everyone~

I just thought about this when I was walking home today. I wanted to find out what all the different Jim Carrey character's names meant...... I guess I had nothing else to think about.... really..... *cough* so moving along. I'll post one meaning, then maybe all the fellow members of JCO could help me?

Here goes,

Joel (I had to pick this one :P) = From Hebrew name "Yoel" meaning "Yahweh is God". Joel was a minor prophet in the Old Testament, the author of the Book of Joel.

I wonder if there's a better site...... this is only history of the name... not exactly what it conveys about the person..... Oh well, thanks for reading~ And hopefully you could help out~ :o

Lloyd Christmas -- Dumb & Dumber

Lloyd = From a surname derived from Welsh llwyd meaning "grey".
Christmas = duh! No need 'splaining.

Lloyd Christmas = Grey Christmas

____

Chip Douglas -- Cable Guy

Chip = Pet form of CHARLES or CHRISTOPHER = Means "bearing Christ", derived from Late Greek Christos combined with pherein "to bear, to carry".

Douglas = Anglicized form of the Gaelic name Dubhghlas, which meant "dark river" or "blood river" from Gaelic dubh "dark" and glais "water, river". Douglas was originally a river name, the site of a particularly bloody battle, which then became a Scottish surname. The surname belonged to a powerful line of Scottish earls.

Chip Douglas = Bearing Christ Blood River

yikes!

Chip Douglas = Bearing Christ Blood River

Considering Chip's behaviour.... I'd say this goes well!

Stanley means "from the rocky meadow", which is nice :) It's old english.

But eh... didn't find anything for Ipkiss.... Not many have that last name I guess.... or maybe I didn't look hard enough? *shrugs*
